Big Al's Trailer Park presents The Wrestler

This trailer alone make this the greatest wrestling movie ever made.

Sarah Palin is a poor location scout.

So here's the story. Sarah Palin, in her role as Governor of Alaska, has just "pardoned a turkey" so that it doesn't become someone's Thanksgiving dinner. It's a traditional yearly photo-op for lots of American politicians, especially the President. Well Mrs. Palin, instead of doing this on the steps of the Governor's mansion or the state house, did it AT A TURKEY FARM.

So is it any wonder that once the photo op was over (and while the local tv station interviewed the Governor) the turkey farm guys went right back to work SLAUGHTERING TURKEYS ON LIVE TELEVISION.

The whole metaphor is that she pardoned a turkey for it's crime of being delicious on America's "eat a lot of food" holiday and now everyone at home gets to see the other prisoners get executed. How dense is this woman? If she were even the slightest bit aware of her surroundings, she would have noticed where she was standing, what was going on behind her and moved a few feet to her right. Even the guy slaughtering the turkeys keeps shooting them looks as if to say "Do they have any idea what I'm doing over here? Oh well... birds gots ta die!"

But luckily for us, she's a complete moron, so please watch and enjoy and remember this four years from now when this dumb broad tries to run for President.

From Printed Page To Silver Screen #6

Welcome my fellow Geniuses to another Edition of PP2SS. Were starting this week with some more news about Captain America. Chris Marcus and Stephen Mc Feely are apparently in talks to script the upcoming film which, rumour has it, is to be a period piece based around the first world war. This should please any fans of Cap as the only way to do this properly is to make it an origins story, as Kingdom said on last weeks HGC Radio show. There are issues with this however.

Narnia films, mix this with Johnson the director from Jurassic Puke 3 and we could be in trouble. As I said last week, I hope Wolfman is decent, It may be the only indicator for how Johnson will deal with Cap. But if we're looking at it right now i'm worried...VERY worried

Sticking with Marvel films their writers has been some buzz this week about another X-men film. Joe Shwartz writer and creator of Gossip Girl and Writer for The O.C and Chuck has been hired by 20th CenturyFox to write X-men: The First Class. It is thought that this will be based loosely on the comic of the same name and feature characters who had roles in the first three films.

Now if we follow the logic that sequels get worse the more there, which has proved true with this franchise so far, then this is gonna be the shitilaz (Stolen!!). The rumoured lineup will include Iceman, Angel, Rogue, Collossus, Jubilee and Shadowcat. Thats a good sounding lineup but I just hope it is delivered properly. It does have a couple of things going for it however.

Firstly although I said the sequels in this franchise are getting worse, the clips I've seen for the Origins: Wolverine project look pretty good and the lady who produced all three x-men films along with Origins, Lauren Shuler Donner is also set to produce The First Class with Simon Kinberg from Mr & Mrs Smith... Well I didn't say it was all good news did I!!

Now hands up if you've seen the latest Watchmen trailer. If your hand is in the air well done if not *SMACK* that was for not paying attention to what may possibly be the greatest comic book film ever. I know I've had my critical moments about this but it doesn't stop me wetting my pants a little every time I think of it and the poster of the Silk Spectre from last week didn't help either. Anyway if you haven't seen it here it is and if you have just enjoy watching it again and again and again and again and... well you get the point.

Now I challenge anybody to tell me that this doesn't look like the greatest thing since... well since TDK but you know what I mean. and whilst we're on trailers check this baby out!

This is the final trailer for The Spirit which hits our screens on Christmas day. I think it looks great, the makers have changed a few things so big fans of the books may be a bit worried thankfully i've never read them so will be watching it with fresh eyes and will review it in full here when it's released this side of the pond. Have a great week Geniuses and..

May the Spirit be with you!

Double digits! Yes, fellow Handsome Geniuses, the HGC Radio Show is now ten weeks old. To celebrate, Uncle Kingdom has lined up a pair of guests you should really enjoy. How will having a wife and child affect his plans for his career? And what does a man with a smiley-faced atomic bomb tattooed on his neck name his first-born son, anyways?

Then, ALAN PARK, one of Canada's most popular stand-up comics and co-star of CBC's Royal Canadian Air Farce sketch comedy show will tell us about the transition from stage to screen, discuss recent political events on both sides of the border, hand out some sage advice for budding comedians and reveal some of his plans for 2009 now that Air Farce is enjoying its "Final Flight" after 35 years on the airwaves.

From Printed Page To Silver Screen #5

Welcome back Handsome Geniuses to another week of comic book movie news. Firstly to continue from last week, there are several new Watchmen Posters sent to different sites I have added the best one, in my humble opinion, to the left and links to the others below. Another worry has arisen from these and that is the change to Ozymandius outfit. I’m really not sure about the new look and the guy in the suit seems a bit feeble to be playing a guy at the peek of human fitness.

Still the good points far outweigh the bad and this film is definitely at the top of my to watch list for next year. Another film which is close to the top of my list is Sherlock Holmes. Now for those of you screaming that’s not a comic book, check your facts! Charlton have had a Holmes run which moved the character to New York and Holmes as been part of the DC Universe several times, he had a major part in the Wildstorm series Planetary and has even teamed with Stokers Dracula once.
This film will feature Iron-man star Robert Downey Jr. as the lead character with Jude Law playing Dr. Watson, Kick-Ass bad guy Mark Strong as the villain and Eddie Marsden (the baddie from Hancock) as Inspector Lestrade. There will also be some nice eye candy for the guys with Rachael McAdams as Irene Adler.

The whole thing is being directed by Guy Ritchie so expect a much harder edge to Holmes than you’ve ever experienced. Speaking of Directors Joe Johnston, the man responsible for Jurassic Park 3, Hidalgo and Jumanji, has signed up to direct Captain America: The First Avenger. I don’t know what my fellow Geniuses think of this, I was quite sceptical at first but then I found out what Johnston is working on right now.

Wolfman. This update of the Iconic 1941 horror of the same name will feature Benicio Del Toro in the title character. I saw a teaser poster for this when I went to see Iron-man and have been hyped for it ever since. I loved the original and have high hopes for this version. If Johnston can pull off Wolfman then maybe there is hope for Cap.

And to round us off this week I have some non film comic book new that just made me smile when I read it so I thought I’d share it with you all. The CW Network has announced they are axing plans to make The Graysons! The studio have said that the show didn't fit in with their plans for the Batman Franchise. All i can say is

THANK GOD!!!!!

HGC Radio - Episode 9: Can You Spare Some CHANGE?

Happy Obama Week, everybody, and welcome to Episode 9 of your favorite pop culture podcast: The Handsome Genius Club Radio Show. Today's show is a lot like a line from a Robert Burns poem. In other words, "the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." Both our scheduled co-host and our scheduled guest went missing, so your loveable and cuddly host ANTHONY KINGDOM JAMES had to call an audible at the line of scrimmage.

Thankfully (and not for the first time) much-heralded comic book penciller LEE MODER joined the show to talk about his current project DRAGON PRINCE, his views on what's worth reading on your comic shop's shelves these days, on life in a new Obama-led America and on why the dietary habits of the city of Pittsburgh make it the greatest city on Earth. Lee also talks about the differences between working at a large company like DC or Marvel as compared to his current home at Image's Top Cow Productions and how the San Diego Comic Con has grown since his first trip there in 1993.

In addition, there's Nerd News, a new featured segment entitled "Who Said No To Us This Week?" and AKJ and TJ discuss life in The Age of Obama, a possible big leap forward for TJ's band Secret Suburbia, Kingdom roughs up two idiots so he can enjoy a shwarma in peace, a history lesson on would-be Presidential assassin John Hinckley's love letters to Jodie Foster and a heck of a lot more... all waiting for you inside this week's Handsome Genius Club Radio Show!

HGC Radio Ep. 9 preview

This week's episode is shaping up to be fantastic. Our first guest, and this week's co-host, is comedian JEAN PAUL. Fans may have seen JP's work on tv shows like "Buzz" or "After Hours" or on his "Comedy Now" special on CTV and the Comedy Metwork in Canada. Next up is former ECW, NWA and AWA World Heavyweight wrestling champion STEVE CORINO. Steve has just completed a tour that included wrestling before crowds in England, Finland and Japan. We'll talk to him about that tour and about his beloved Philadelphia Phillies recent World Series victory.

Plus, we've got all of this week's important "Nerd News", a new feature called "Who Said No To Us Now?" and a whole lot more fun in store for you. Join your host ANTHONY KINGDOM JAMES this Friday for Episode 9 of THE HANDSOME GENIUS CLUB RADIO SHOW.

Until then, check out some video of Jean Paul on stage after the cut and Happy Obama to everyone!

From Printed Page To Silver Screen #4

Welcome Geniuses, one and all, to another edition of Printed Page to Silver Screen. I know I’ve had a bit of a lengthy hiatus and I do apologise but we will dive right back into the thick of things. There have been a few rumours surfacing and some hot Watchmen footage. The next big release is ‘The Spirit’ and we’ll touch on that in this edition also.

I would like to start with something that Kingdom touched on in episode 7 of the HGC and that is Watchmen and the footage that has been released. For this of you that missed the Scream awards footage or just want to see it again I’ve stuck the video below.

Firstly I’d like to say that this film looks frickin awesome!! However with the rumours of the change to the ending and the way some of it has been filmed, like Rorschach’s movements and Nite Owl’s ability to leap from his aircraft. I am getting slightly worried about how closely they are sticking to the comic. These guys are not supposed to have any real powers yet Both Rorschach and Nite Owl seemed able to leap and run like I expected only Ozymandias to be able to do.

One of the Major rumours to surface of the last couple of weeks and something that was touched on in episode 8 of the HGC is Mark Miller’s (Wanted and Kick-Ass) idea for another Superman reboot. He has said that ‘The Dark Knight’ has shown that a superhero movie can be done with a serious and gritty take and he wants to do the same for Superman. His idea is to do an 8 hour epic split over three films, much like Lord of the Rings.

Straight away that gets me thinking that if they can’t even get a 2hr film right what the hell would an 8hr epic be like, shouldn’t they just concentrate on getting the basics then develop it from there? However I did read the interview with Miller and his idea seems kind of interesting.

"I want to start on Krypton, a thousand years ago, and end with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers."

This leaves so much scope to work with but is that too much scope? Even with 8hrs could he really do it justice? I have my doubts. What do you think my fellow Geniuses? Now from one DC legend to another or more precisely a Vertigo one

Jesse Custer, Preacher. Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition and Jarhead) had been attached to direct. Careful thought needs to go into this. They almost made a T.V series of Preach but it was put into turn around and View Askew only made it to the casting stage but was tagged with a $25 million budget. Hopefully they won’t try to squeeze the whole thing into a single movie and they will give the characters their due attention but it’s Hollywood so you never know!

Who would you cast as Preacher, Cassidy or Tulip? I know that James Marsden (Cyclops) was attached to the View Askew production to play the lead, I personally hate that idea but id like to hear your suggestions on who should be in these roles.

And finally, The Spirit. With Miller’s adaptation coming next month I’ve done a fair bit of reading on the character, who I have to admit I had never read until news of the movie being made and again I’m not sure about some of the changes they have made for instance they are letting us see the Octopus. I will cover the film in detail when it is released this side of the pond but for those of you who can’t wait her are a couple of trailers.
