According to a post on The Wrestling Observer website, Mickey Rourke was telling people at tonight's Screen Actors' Guild Awards that Mickey Rourke at the SAG Awards tonight said "he'd talked to Vince McMahon and that he would be at WrestleMania, and that he is coming for Chris Jericho." The fine folks at WO have received confirmation of this statement from multiple sources. This is an about-face on McMahon's part. McMahon predictably poo-poo'd Darren Aronovsky's film "The Wrestler" after the director trekked to Stamford, CT to prvide the wrestling mogul with a private screening. But with the movie's star winning a Golden Globe as best actor and both the star and co-star earning Academy Award nominations... Vince started seeing dollar signs like Scrooge McDuck the moment someone tells him there is profit to be made.
More after the cut...
The WWE has a long history of celebrity involvement inside and around the ring at Wrestlemania, going all the way back to the original event in 1985 which included Muhammed Ali, baseball hall of famer Billy Martin and even Liberace as special guests and actor Mr. T wrestling in the main event. How will Rourke fare without a stunt double or a director to yell "cut"? Will he even wrestle? And what's he getting paid to be part of "The Granddaddy of Them All"?
