R.I.P. Rodney Pentland (1968 - 2009)

Rodney Pentland, Canadian stand-up comedian, has died at the age of 41. Rodney may be best known to the general public for a commercial he did several years ago for TSN's SportsDesk featuring Rod's spot-on Robert DeNiro impression. On a personal note, Rod was a friend to me at one of the many times in my life where I had fucked things up and really needed a hand. Rodney was there. I feel a sense of loss but tinged with the guilt of having only made the beginnings of reconnecting with him after losing touch almost a decade ago.

Rodney Pentland was good people.

For Rodney's TSN commercial,

I have known Rodney for years! I also lost touch with him once he moved to T.O. and met up with him again - only through facebook. Can someone please please tell me what happened and how he died?!? I know he had a brain injury years ago and kidney problems. Please can someone give me some answers?

My sister says it was a blood clot and another brain aneurysm.

Here's 10 minutes of his stand up.

What happened to Rodney will never be known for sure. It is know that he colasped in a restaurant in TO and could not be revied. An Autopsy was not performed because of his medical history of the brain anyerism and kidney problems. What is known for sure is the great humor he brought to our lives.
Love his brother in law

He was a great performer, and he'll be missed. He could've been big.

Rodney was a good soul. Always quick with the joke but also quick to help out anybody in need- often even strangers. I knew Rodney nearly 20 years ago. We frequented the same clubs together and had the same friends. He was a great person then. I managed to alienate him and most of my friends when I made the "wrong choice" once but I always regret the loss of friendship. Take care Rodney. You left your mark on this world and people will always remember you for the good, decent guy you were. Ciao. JB.

For whatever reason, Rodney Pentland has been on my mind for the past month; it may be due to the fact that I just recently got back in touch with an old mutual friend or ours & we spoke of Rodney.

I went to high school with him at N.F.C.V.I. in Niagara Falls back in the 80's and back when he would open up for 'Air Bands'. I decided to Google him to see what ever happened to him. Well, you can imagine my shock with I saw the R.I.P. blog!

I saw him on t.v. a few years back doing a stand up gig for Club 54 (?), I think that's what that club was called. He did his infamous imitation of Robert DeNiro along with his usual schtick. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well his craft was & at how funny he was. But I was more happy that he stuck to his dream. Rodney always knew this is the path he was destined for.
